Mark Lee started
BentleyGift in 1998 as an art and frame shop with one big goal in mind: to support his extended family by giving them jobs. The company brought on new vendors and experienced the growth Mark had hoped for. As the company grew, Mark faced three challenges: increasing claims due to ‘item not received by theft’, limited warehouse floor space, and the management of multi-channel fulfillment.
Reducing the burden of claims
When the opportunity to try Amazon Shipping was presented to BentleyGift, “we jumped on board,” says Mark. “It made the claims process just about seamless.” He added, that claims from ‘item not received by theft’ were a greater challenge for his business prior to working with Amazon Shipping.
Mark explains, “Amazon Shipping takes a photograph and GPS location of the delivery. So, if I get someone in an apartment complex who says ‘I didn’t receive my packages’ I can see the GPS location and the photograph of the delivery. Amazon will not honor this claim because Amazon proved that it was delivered.”
Moving faster with pickup and delivery seven days a week
The second issue was making the most of limited floor space in BentleyGift’s warehouse. Prior to working with Amazon Shipping, the company lacked a cost-effective option for weekend pickup and delivery. Now, BentleyGift is able to free up warehouse floor space and improve efficiency of the warehouse team. “Having that daily pickup helps enormously, because I have limited space,” says Mark. He adds that he moved weekend shipments to Amazon Shipping, “so I could get them in transit to my customers.”
Automating multi-channel fulfillment
BentleyGift receives hundreds of orders each day on three separate ecommerce channels, including Amazon. It was critical that Amazon Shipping connect with
ShipStation to automatically print shipping labels. Mark recalls that the integration with Amazon Shipping and ShipStation was seamless. “You set defaults for that SKU for the shipping configuration and it makes it very easy to purchase and print the shipping labels.” Mark notes that because the company purchases hundreds of labels each day, “without ShipStation it would be arduous.”
New product lines and new opportunities
Today, BentleyGift is the largest US retailer for Tyler Candle and Maison Berger. The company has just onboarded Sebo Vacuums and E-CLOTH. For Mark, business growth continues to be about creating opportunities for others. After a long-time friend was severely injured, he gave him the job of managing the Amazon sales portion of the business. “It keeps him quite busy and it provides a good income for him and his new family.”
